Alexander Chen is a Junior currently studying Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology at Yale University. His academic interests include computer science, healthcare, and bioethics. In his spare time, Alex enjoys playing music and cooking; he makes a (reportedly) mean fried rice. He has had experience working with Rotary in the past, and is currently the president of the Yale Rotaract Club. After graduating, Alex hopes to work in healthcare.
The second place essay was submitted by Cinthia Fabian of Columbia College.
Born and raised in Connecticut, Cinthia Fabian is currently a sophomore student at Columbia University majoring in Medicine, Literature, and Society. At Columbia, she serves as the Parent Liaison for Heights to Heights, a mentoring program for ESL students. In addition, she is an intern at the Columbia University Center for Career Education and is actively involved in the Columbia University Performing Arts League. In her free time, she loves exploring art museums, binge-watching TED talks, and doing Pilates. She ultimately hopes to pursue a career in healthcare administration and/or non-profit work.
